Your Origin Account is soon to be known as your EA Account, according to an email being sent out to members.
“In the coming weeks your Origin Account will be renamed to an EA Account to better represent all of EA’s games and services,” the email warned.
Origin users obviously have no choice about this change. The name switch will happen automatically in the coming weeks, but nothing else is meant to change in terms of the services being offered to gamers. You’ll just have to get used to hearing much more generic and boring text like “this EA game requires an EA Account to work.” I’m not sure how they’ll rewrite these marketing lines though, “Connect with friends and more–all on Origin. … exclusively on Origin.”
By switching it to EA Account you can’t really refer to it as a service anymore, it’s a thing instead. “All on EA Account” doesn’t work, neither does “connect with friends on EA Account.” They’ll have to reword everything as well as changing the name across the entire site and marketing. This all seems a little bit silly to me, to the point where I don’t think we’re being told the whole story in terms of why this change is taking place.
