Vampyr, the next game from Life is Strange developer Dontnod, is out very soon and now is a perfect time to get a refresher about everything special about it.
We can all thankfully do that with the help of a new, very lengthy Vampyr gameplay. It’s more of a demo, actually, similar to the ones the press get behind closed doors at trade shows.
The new footage comes accompanied with developer commentary. This is the archive of a recent developer stream Dontnod hosted. It’s pretty good because the developers answer several questions from the chat, and really dig deep into aspects not touched on in edited gameplay, such as the many skills and RPG mechanics.
The video is definitely worth watching, even in part. It shows off a more recent build of the game, it looks like some of the jank seen in earlier footage has been smoothed over.
In Vampyr you play as Dr. Jonathan E. Reid who has the difficult task of working to save people as a surgeon and satisfying the primal needs of his alter ago, a vampire who must feed on others to survive. It’s pretty grim, and the visuals are very reminiscent of Bloodborne’s, though without lovecraftian influences.
