Ubisoft seems optimistic that Beyond Good and Evil 2 will be playable – at least in beta form – in 2019.
Beyond Good and Evil 2 has been in development hell for almost a decade now, and seems to have gone at least one complete production reboot before the version we saw at E3 2018. All the same, Ubisoft is hopeful that beta players will be able to dig into it next year.
Game director Michael Ancel recently posted some a screenshot of Ganesha city to Instagram, which isn’t exactly the place for a production announcement. But in the comments, Ancel responded to questions with his plan for a playable beta.
“We aim for a playable beta for the end of next year,” Ancel wrote.
Now, having a playable beta next year may be optimistic on Ancel’s part, considering the controversial decision to have fans create in-game content. Our own preview noted Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still in an early build state, with only one planet that’s show-ready. At the same time, BG&E 2’s procedural content may fill in some of the gaps.
We’ll just have to see where Beyond Good and Evil 2 sits at E3 2019. Until then, development continues for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms.
