The studio behind Never Alone has a new educational game on the way that takes its inspiration from the BBC’s Blue Planet II series.
Beyond Blue is the upcoming title from Never Alone dev, E-Line Media, and is an educational title with a focus on exploration and an “evocative narrative.”
Inspired by the BBC’s Blue Planet series, the studio collaborated with both the BBC and marine researchers to create a game set in the near future that will see players take on the role of Mirai, leading a research team into the ocean’s depths to have a good old poke around.
“We started asking each scientist how they would use their time below if they could jump forward ten or fifteen years and lead a small team powered with a full fleet of advanced technology,” CEO of E-Line Media, Michael Angst, told Engadget.
“We found their answers fascinating and the game has emerged as a way to channel these visions into what we hope will be an atmospheric and moving experience.”
According to Beyond Blue’s Steam Store page, it will feature “high level”resource management and will present players with “high-stakes decisions” during the expedition.
Pegged for a 2019 release, the title is in development for PC and console, although exactly which platforms it’s coming to hasn’t been announced just yet.
