PayPal has blocked the ability to use its service to purchase the game Active Shooter, a game where you can play as a school shooter.
PayPal has closed the account of Acid Software, preventing the service from being used to purchase its game Active Shooter.
Speaking with the Associated Press, PayPal said the removal of the account was a policy issue.
“PayPal has a longstanding, well-defined and consistently enforced Acceptable Use Policy,” the company said. “And regardless of the individual or organization in question, we work to ensure that our services are not used to accept payments for activities that promote violence.”
Active Shooter has been condemned by anti-gun violence advocates, and parents whose children were killed in the Parkland, Florida and Newtown, Connecticut school shootings. Online petitions and complaints from both groups were attributed to both websites for Active Shooter being pulled offline by its web host.
According to the Associated Press, the websites are live again after switching over to Russian servers.
Ata Berdyev, a Seattle-based representative of Acid told the news organization everyone in the US was “trying to censor us, whilst not explaining what exactly we are violating.”
Active Shooter was removed from Steam in March along with other offerings developed by Moscow-based Ata Berdiyev and Acid Software. It was also pulled from crowdfunding site Indiegogo.
