The Q1 triple-A bounty is well and truly over, and only Playtonic’s Banjoa-Kazooie successor is offers succour as the mid-year release drought begins to make itself felt. Yooka-Laylee reviews have been mixed but there’s a pretty obvious reason for it: either you’re interested in 90’s style family-friendly platforming, or you enjoy the feeling of having over 20 years between you and the last one.
If you prefer to buy games on disc there’s a treat for you this week – 2016’s indie darling Stardew Valley can finally be yours. If you have ever liked Harvest Moon even a little and have wondered what would happen if someone took the formula and tried to improve it rather than just constantly shitting out sequels, it’s worth playing however you can get it.
Fans of classic RPGs and those who wonder what they’re missing out on should check in with Planescape: Torment Enhanced Edition on Mac and PC (and Android and iOS, but those formats are undated). It will be a bit of a culture shock if this is your first go round, but it’s one of the all time greats if you can get past the learning curve.
