The open beta for H1Z1, the battle royale shooter from Daybreak Games, is already a success.
Daybreak has revealed that in just 24 hours, H1Z1 has been downloaded by over 1.5 million players on PS4. The open beta is free, of course, available to everyone.
The launch hasn’t been without its issues, though. Reports of failed log in attempts, server stability, and even purchase issues for the game’s cosmetic items have been popping up over the past two days.
There’s also still other problems like long loading screens and in-game hit detection issues. Servers are understandably getting hammered, and Daybreak is aware and actively working on all the issues players reported.
Right now, you can play H1Z1 as a solo player or in a squad of five. Duos are still coming, hopefully sometime before this week is over, though server issues could delay that.
For a moment there it seemed like all is lost for H1Z1 developer Daybreak. After widespread reports of layoffs, and an apparent connection to a sanctioned Russian oligarch (which Daybreak denies), things weren’t looking so good for the studio.
Perhaps interest in a free-to-play battle royale game that isn’t Fortnite will be enough for H1Z1 to find an audience and give Daybreak a new lease on life, because the game just isn’t doing it on PC anymore.
