Daybreak Games has confirmed that the H1Z1 PS4 open beta broke yet another million player benchmark.
How can you tell that the Battle Royale fad isn’t even close to finished? When you publish a PS4 open beta and get 1.5 million players in a single day.
Then you check back after a few more days, and the number has increased to 4.5 million.
[PS4 Open Beta] As a THANK YOU to all 4.5 million+ of you who have joined us since Open Beta launch, we've dropped the Blue Barbed Hellfire 4-6 right into your inventory!
PLUS, Duos is now unlocked with a brand new patch – see the latest fixes here: https://t.co/ZC3AuC94uU pic.twitter.com/G3iLFmX1AZ

The news was confirmed by Daybreak Games via Twitter, who presumably were as surprised as anybody else. As a reward, all current players have been rewarded with a free Blue Barbed Hellfire 4-6 in their inventories.
H1Z1 has an complex history, starting out as a zombie survival game before it was split into various independent projects. One of these included a Battle Royale edition, which underwent three years of early access on PC before getting a free-to-play release last February. By the way, this Battle Royale mode was inspired by a mod from PlayerUnknown himself, before he moved on to PUBG.
The PS4 version of H1Z1 kicked off its open beta last week, and shows no sign of slowing down despite various technical issues. An Xbox One version is planned for a later date.
