Hey! You! Want to watch some crisp footage of Dragon Quest 11’s English localization in action? Have we got the video for you…
While Dragon Quest isn’t quite as important to Square in the West as Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts, it’s nice to see that the publisher is giving their oldest staple series extra love in the localization – and the result of that extra love and attention is the excellent-looking Western release of Dragon Quest 11.
For a start it’s coming out on PC day-and-date with the PS4 version – that’s a new platform – but it also features a quality localization of the game that oozes charm, too.
Regular VG247 contributor Andi Hamilton went to play it for us recently, and you can see some footage from his adventures above. In his glowing written DQ11 preview he concludes that “the extra time in the localisation oven appears to have been absolutely worth it”.
There’s not all that much talking in the video since we’re not allowed to show off plot elements due to worries about spoilers, but you can still get a good taste for the translation in battle barks – and better than that, you can get a look at DQ11’s pleasingly traditional combat and utterly gorgeous world design.
If you want more information on Dragon Quest 11, the first place you should stop by is our detailed hands-on preview of the game. Between this and the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 3, which we also recently played, it’s looking like a remarkably strong year for Japanese RPGs from Square Enix. DQ11 releases on PC and PS4 simultaneously on September 4.
